Misspelled Words

When the time comes to show your work to the world, don't spoil the readers experience by making a spelling mistake.

Read through the following words. These are amongst the most problematic when it comes to misspelling. Learn these and you are on your way to spelling success. Absence, acceptable, accidentally, accommodate, accomplish, accordion, accumulate, acknowledge, acquaintance, acquire, acquit, a lot, amateur, apology, apparent, argument, atheist, axle, barbecue, beginning, believe, bellwether, broccoli, calendar, camouflage, category, cemetery, changeable, chauvinism, collectible, column, commemorate, committed, congratulations, conscience, conscientious, conscious, consensus, coolly, defendant, defiant, definite (ly), desperate, deterrence, difference, disappear, disappoint, discipline, dissipate, drunkenness, dumbbell, embarrass (ment), especially, equipment, exhilarate, exceed, excellent, exercise, existence, experience, fiery, finally, foreign, fourth, fulfil, gauge, generally, genius, grammar, grateful, guarantee, handkerchief, harass, height, hierarchy, horrific, humorous, hypocrisy, ignorance, imitate, immediate, inadvertent, incidentally, independent, indispensable, ingenious, intelligence, inoculate, irresistible, judgement, kernel, knowledge, labelled, led, leisure, liaison, library, license, lieutenant, lightning, liquefy, magically, maintenance, manoeuvre, medieval, memento, millennium, miniature, minuscule, mischief, mischievous, misspell , nauseous, necessary, neighbour, no one, noticeable, occasion, occasionally, occur / occurred, occurrence, official, parallel, parliament, pastime, perseverance, personnel, physical, pigeon, playwright, possession, precede, preferable, presumptuous, principal / principle, privilege, proceed, pronunciation, publicly, pursue, questionnaire, receive, recommend, referred, reference, refrigerator, relevant, religious, remembrance, renowned, restaurant, ridiculous, rhyme, rhythm, sandal, sandwich, savvy, schedule, scissors, seize, sensible, separate, sergeant, similar, special, success, supersede, tariff, tomorrow, tongue, threshold, tomorrow, tragedy, truly, twelfth, tyranny, until, vacuum, vicious, weather, weird.

Double-check your work so that your reader is interested in your writing and not concerned by your spelling. Do run it through a spellchecker, but please remember that a spell checker will not pick up everything e.g. 'to' and 'too' will both be accepted by a spell checker, but not by your reader. If spelling has different options e.g. neighbour or neighbor, go with whatever works in your part of the world.
